Idema and Jornada no Bosque launch photo contest

The Institute of Sustainable Development and Environment – Idema, together with the Museum Program Jornada no Bosque, launch, on Monday (11), the Terms of the “Photographic Journey Contest: Nature alive in you”. The competition is open to the community, and no link with the responsible institutions is allowed. Those interested have until May 1 to register and send a subtitled photograph, with the environmental theme in the State Conservation Units of Rio Grande do Norte.

The Competition aims to capture different views on the nature present in the Conservation Units, to foster the approximation and strengthening of bonds and affective memories with the natural heritage of Rio Grande do Norte, in addition to encouraging the contemporary production of photography.

Registration takes place from April 11 to May 1. The photographs can be inscribed in two categories: “Conservation Units in focus” and “INature”. The first one contemplates photographs that present the local biodiversity or the interaction of the human being with the environment in the State Conservation Units; and the last one contemplates photo performance works that present the artist’s relationship with the nature that exclusively composes the biodiversity of the State Conservation Units.

For the coordinator of the Conservation Units Management Center (NUC/Idema), Rafael Laia, in addition to being spaces with beautiful landscapes and full of wildlife, Protected Areas, such as Parque das Dunas and the Environmental Protection Area of Coral Reefs, are one of the most effective ways to protect natural ecosystems and, consequently, biodiversity.

“The Photo Contest will be one of the activities offered during the Environment Week. Through the images, the contest seeks to promote the State Conservation Units of RN, while helping us to remember the importance of these environments for life on Earth. We need to know and value our nature and Potiguar biodiversity more,” Laia said.

For the creator of the Jornada no Bosque Program, Maurício Panella, the Contest provides a stimulus in this sense, by combining education, art and the environment.

“In these almost four years of actions of Jornada in the Conservation Unit Parque das Dunas, our team is happy to see the engagement of people with our creations in natural spaces. And now, through the Photographic Journey Contest – Nature alive in you, created in partnership with the Idema Conservation Units Center, we will have the opportunity to present and bring people closer to the biodiversity of other Conservation Units, using photography as a means. We are happy to be able to create this network of partnership between municipal and state public agencies, building a greater dialogue between the departments of Culture, Education and the Environment, and also with the companies that support Jornada, through the Djalma Maranhão and Câmara Cascudo Incentive Laws”, commented Panella.

The images will be evaluated by a Judging Committee, formed by photography and environmental professionals, through the criteria of visual impact, originality and mastery. The final award will take place on June 5, 2022, on the World Environment Day.
