Art Residency offers nearly 100 hours of free programming open to the public

During the artistic residency “Dunas – Territories of collaborative creation”, which takes place from August 14 to 26 in Natal, with creators from Burkina Faso, Spain, and Brazil, the public will have the opportunity to participate in dozens of free activities related to contemporary art, music, nature, and traditional knowledge.

Among the workshops, already with open registrations, are “Sound Art: Construction of binaural heads”, by Josep Cerdá (ES); “Balafon and the oral tradition of Burkina Faso”, taught by Konomba Traoré and François Moïse Bamba (BF). The event will also have the workshops “Pulse-presence”, which will be presented by Helder Vasconcelos (BR) and “Creative flows – the nature of our creations”, with Laura Tamiana (BR), which will open for registrations on August 10.

Also planned in the program are lectures and conversation circles on sound art; art and landscape; traditions in dialogue and cultural diversity, which take place in the auditorium of the Ágora Institute, of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte.

Cultural presentations with parades through Parque das Dunas will celebrate the 20 years of creation of the Mother Earth House sculpture, with the participation on August 19 of the Zamberacatu Nation and on August 26 with Helder Vasconcelos. To complete the program, two moments of storytelling and music, bringing together Konomba Traoré, François Moïse Bamba and Laura Tamiana (Ba-kô Burkina Brasil).

The event will also feature the audiovisual exhibition with films from the first network of indigenous women filmmakers in Brazil, a project coordinated by Catitu Institute. Mari Corrêa, director of the Institute, also participates in the event and the Q&A with the public. We will also have an exhibition day with productions from the state.

All events will have free access, however, to participate in the workshops, which have limited seats, you will need to register through the website www.ajornada.org. The lectures and conversation circles take place in partnership with the departments of the courses of language, visual arts, and communication from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).

To encourage the access and participation of young people in the artistic activities of the residence, scholarships will be offered to students of the Waldemar de Almeida Music Institute, maintained by the State Government, and the Ilha da Música project, which serves children and adolescents from the Africa community, in Redinha, Natal.

The artistic residency “Dunas – Territories of collaborative creation” is a project presented by the Ministry of Culture through the Federal Law of Incentive to Culture sponsored by Ticket Log and Edenred Brasil. It is supported by the Government of RN, Idema, Parque das Dunas, José Augusto Foundation, Ba-kô Burkina Brasil, Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), Ágora Institute,  Department of Arts of UFRN (DEART) and Dean Office of Extension of UFRN (PROEX).
